How to Cope with Depression and Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety – Dealing with the common cold, sniffles, sore throat, and cough seems pretty straightforward.  We go to our local pharmacy if we are “western medicine-ized”, or we look to garlic, ginger, 50,000IU of Vitamin D, an extra dose or two of Vitamin C, and lots of zinc if we are the “earthy crunchers” like me.

But when it comes to the pandemic still to this day that no one seems to address properly, how to cope with anxiety and depression can be as common sense as rocket science. I remember like it was yesterday my first anxiety attack and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. Sweating profusely, shaking uncontrollably, and wondering if this was it.  That heart attack that everyone talks about with no pain in your chest or left arm, just that cryptic thought of the walls closing in.

Still to this day, as I look around after my suffering in silence well over 14 years ago now, most of the societal norming and information about how to cope with anxiety and depression is just false. Drugs are produced in a lab which means at the very core, they are and you are ingesting a tough every time you swallow a benzodiazepine and or SSRI, which are the two classes of drugs for depression and anxiety.

I was on these, and short term they can cause some masking of symptoms and make you feel like you are ok, but in the end, they will never restore your cellular biochemistry which has been damaged over time. At its very core, depression is internalized fear and anger, coupled with too many toxins setting in the soft tissue of the cells of your body.

To heal the body, it takes a few things working together to cope with anxiety and depression properly to alleviate symptoms.

First and foremost, proper nutrition is a must, not a luxury if you want to feel alive and well.  Here is a little-known tip about food and I believe you will think I’m crazy after I reveal it.  When you are shopping at your local grocery store, stay on the outside perimeter of the store!  Why you may ask?  Well, think about it, everything in the aisles (or 85%) is in a box or a package which have to have preservatives, additives, and toxins contained within the package to keep it fresh.   This adds toxicity to everything you buy in those boxes.  The worst is tuna or anything in a canister made out of aluminum and there are a lot of foods packaged this way.

When you shop on the perimeter, it’s typically meats (only buy grass-fed beef or free-range chicken), fruits (again organic-wash them thoroughly otherwise there are pesticides), and vegetables. In the past few years, I have noticed they are now adding the “protein” craze with protein bars and shakes.  Read the labels, most are laced with aspartame and too much sugar and soy. Proper food intake is the very first precursor to helping you cope with anxiety and depression.

What’s Next

Next, you must supplement with the proper, science-backed vitamins and minerals, NOT commercial, watered-down placebos. Most of what you find in the local GNC or Whole Foods are nothing but knock-offs from synthetic drugs that are only wasting your money.

Lastly, learn how to breathe!  Yes, you heard me right.  Most people only know how to breathe from the neck up.  Upper thoracic breathing does NOT deepen your oxygen levels.  You must breathe from your diaphragm.  Inhale as you push out your stomach for a count of 5 and blow it out as you depress your stomach and blow it out.  Do this 2-3 times per day with at least a 20 count, you will be amazed how much better you feel and can begin to cope with anxiety and depression while living beyond your pharmacy.

In Conclusion

You must avoid the Anxiety Cycle. Meaning that your need to get off the circle, of stress. I would recommend a one to one meeting with Wake Up Sense,  call Scott at 801.564.1167 or email scott@wakeupsense.com
