Laboratory Tests to Guide Your Healing

As you have seen from our Board members, doctors and advisers, you simply must know your hormone levels, including cortisol, thyroid functions and others, to design a proper protocol for healing.  I can tell you that when I was on these meds many years ago, never once did my MD or psychiatrist ever test my levels to determine my deficiencies.  This information is absolutely crucial to your healing, and is part of WakeupSense’s commitment to excellence.

For Tier 2 and above, we recommend that you are tested for your Cortisol, AM (serum) level to to detect excess or deficient cortisol production.  This a blood test that does not require fasting but must be drawn at 8 AM at the lab.  WakeupSense provides a cost effective way to obtain this test.

Cortisol has a range of roles in the body.  It helps break down protein, glucose and lipids, maintain blood pressure and regulate the immune system.  Heat, cold, infection, trauma,
stress, exercise, obesity, and debilitating disease can influence cortisol levels.  The hormone is secreted in a daily pattern rising in the early morning, peaking around 8 am, and declining in the evening.  This pattern, which is sometimes called the “diurnal variation” or “circadian rhythm” changes if you work irregular shifts (such as the night shift) and sleep at different times of the day.
